Whether you’re keeping the gender of your baby a secret or you’re adopting and wanted a baby-ready nursery, keeping the décor gender-neutral doesn’t mean you have to scrimp on style. And it’s OK to think outside the box. Make your baby’s nursery, no matter the gender, something fantastic, creative, and stylish. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
Pick a Theme – Sticking with a theme can keep things neutral and cute. Your options for themes are endless, but some popular nursery themes include a safari, circus, or beach theme. Picking a theme can also help you pick your colors.
Fun Colors – Just because your baby nursery is gender-neutral, it doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Use bright, fun colors. If you chose a circus theme, you could do bright reds, yellows, and blues. If you decided on the beach theme, all blues, greens, and browns are open to you. Not only will bright colors make it more interesting for you to be in there, but, as your baby grows, he or she will love spending time in such a fun, bright room.
Gender-Neutral Toys – What is a baby nursery without toys? Instead of ballerinas and dinosaurs, which aren’t exclusive to gender necessarily, why not opt for teddy bears, assorted stuffed animals, and other toys?
Imaginative Books – Find books that go along with your theme. But don’t limit yourself to just theme-aligned books. If you can, collect some of your favorites from when you were a child. It will add a bit of nostalgia to the room, and it could even start a lovely family tradition.
Magical Details – Add some magical details to your baby’s nursery. You could paint stars on the ceiling above the crib, for instance. No matter the gender of your baby, adding magical sparks throughout the room will inspire creativity and encourage imagination as your child ages and matures.
Finding Balance – If you want to include something that’s traditionally one gender over the other, you can still use it. You just have to find balance. So, if you want something more delicate to cover the window, make sure to have sturdy, thick crib. The balance can neutralize any gender-specific accents or pieces you want to incorporate into your baby’s nursery.
While not all these ideas are only for those decorating a gender-neutral nursery, it’s a great way to add flair, creativity, and individuality.
